Downtown Conway Life

Downtown Conway, SC, has charm and perks that make it a great place to live. Everyday, I’m reminded why I love calling this place my home!

  1. Historic Charm: Conway boasts a rich history, evident in its well-preserved downtown area. The historic architecture, live oak trees, and tree lined sidewalks give the area a unique character and appeal. If anyone wonders why the Realty ONE Dockside office in downtown Conway has a soda fountain, it’s because the building had a soda fountain in 1870 when it was Platt’s Pharmacy.
  2. Community Atmosphere: I love it that Conway feels like a tight-knit community. Despite bustling with activity, there’s still a strong sense of community. I get to frequently interact with neighbors at local businesses, community events, or simply while walking around. It creates camaraderie and a tight-knit atmosphere.
  3. Local Businesses: From cozy cafes to boutique shops, downtown Conway offers a variety of locally-owned businesses. This not only provides convenient shopping and dining options but also contributes to the area’s distinctive identity.  I like patronizing local businesses to help show support and contribute to the local economy. I don’t feel as guilty having dessert at one of the amazing restaurants if I’ve walked there!
  4. Cultural Events: The downtown area frequently hosts cultural events, such as art shows, music festivals, and farmers’ markets. These events not only add vibrancy to the community but also provide opportunities for residents to connect and engage with each other.
  5. Recreational Opportunities: Conway Riverwalk, which winds along the Waccamaw River, offers a scenic spot for walking, jogging, or simply enjoying the outdoors. It’s a peaceful retreat within the heart of Conway. There are other nearby parks to include Collins Park and Waccamaw River Park with trails and frisbee golf. (Waccamaw River Park is a hidden gem and I was torn between wanting to share and keeping it a secret but decided to tell you about it so you can enjoy!)

  6. Proximity to Myrtle Beach: While downtown Conway has its own charm, residents also benefit from its proximity to Myrtle Beach, a popular  destination known for its beaches, entertainment, and dining options. Living in Conway allows residents to enjoy the best of both worlds – the tranquility of a small town and the excitement of a beach resort area.
  7. Education: Conway is home to Horry Georgetown Technical College and Coastal Carolina University, which provide educational and cultural opportunities to residents. Having a college and university nearby can enrich the community with lectures, performances, and sporting events.  I recently had a tour of HGTC’s Cyber Security Lab and learned about an awesome program they offer there.  I also recently discovered that CCU has OLLI@Coastal which is one of the 125 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes.

Downtown Conway offers a blend of history, community spirit, cultural richness, and recreational opportunities, making it an attractive place to call home. If you have any questions, reach out and ask. I’ve lived here since 1990.
