Mother’s Day
I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. I know Mother’s Day isn’t the happiest day for everyone for various reasons. I lost my own mother when I was 14 years old. Mother’s Day for many years after made me miss her even more. It was probably not until I became a Mom that I was able to celebrate Mother’s Day with happiness. I finally was able to celebrate and honor my mother by sharing stories and photos of her with my kids over the years as they grew up. My ‘kids’ are all grown up, and over the years I’ve had every kind of Mother’s Day. We’ve celebrated by watching Lion King on VHS 4 consecutive times from a blanket fort in the tiny living room of the house we rented on 15th Ave. We’ve celebrated with picnics in our backyard or at the park. We’ve celebrated at fast food and fancy restaurants. I’ve had years where I spent the day cleaning vomit, making chicken noodle soup, and cutting the crust off of toast. I’ve had years where I’ve been spoiled with everything from coupon books full of chores and back rubs, (some are still owed to me!) bouquets of flowers, candles, hand written cards, and even beautiful jewelry. I can genuinely say that being a mom is the greatest gift I’ve ever received and that includes my bonus kids.
This year, my wonderful husband let me sleep in. (priceless gift) He took the dogs out, cooked me a delicious breakfast, and gave me beautiful flowers. I had a video call with my first born who called me from her home in Japan. We had many laughs and an especially funny meme dump. My afternoon was spent in North Myrtle Beach where my future daughter in law planned the most relaxing and fun day for her mother and me. She made a delicious and beautiful charcuterie board and served us mimosas. We then went to Wine Therapy accompanied by the fellas to include my second born. Fun place but anywhere with this extended family makes for a wonderful day. Dinner was at Whittakers in Conway with Bryan and Ian. Food, service, and company were wonderful. I did not have to cook a single meal or wash a single dish all day.
Mother’s Day 2023
The ‘kids’ years past
As hard as it was to resist, I did not work all day yesterday other than responding to text messages and coordinating showings…. Ok, I worked a little bit, but it was a fun and relaxing day!
Here’s to a happy, healthy, prosperous week.
